Continuing the Legacy of Chennupati Vidya

Love you so much and you are with ME

Chennupati Vidya, a WOMAN with conviction, passion and determination, worked more than 60 years for the dignity and respect of women. Hailing from a freedom fighters' family, she had seen India’s freedom struggle. She had shared her 14 years of journey during freedom struggle with all her co-workers and children. She also had the impact of Gandhi's principles of non-violence, truth, dignity of work and respect to humanity on her.

Although she entered into public life at the age of 21, she never compromised her values either in political or social life. That made me a proud daughter who has imbibed all those values since childhood. I have been carrying forward those values throughout my life and making many more to follow her.

I remember a woman named Vasundhara, now 50-years old, said that in 1976, she went to Vidya with her few-days-old baby in a very helpless state. Vidya took her daughter into her lap, fed her lunch at her home, called to Hyderabad regarding her stay. Within an hour, she connected her to a government-run shelter home in Vijayawada, India.  After that, she was moved to Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM), then a short-stay home and supported to establish a canteen. VMM took care of her daughter’s education and helped her settled in life with respect and confidence. Vasundhara said, "It is NOT only ME, BUT many women like me are now leading a life with DIGNITY."

WE, as next generation of Vidya, were trained and mentored by her for more than 35 years at VMM. We have our values, philosophies, and we work with empathy and self-reliance.

We all uphold the values of VMM and continue the legacy of Vidya.

Vidya is forever in the work of VMM…..
